All Aboard the Short Pump Express, a fun train that rides around the mall

The Short Pump Express is a highlight of Short Pump Town Center. This small train for children makes coming to this mall really special. When you arrive at the mall, you will want to park close to The Boathouse restaurant, or Baker's Crust. This will make your walk to the "train station" very short. The walk from parking lot to the train station is stroller friendly.

Before you board the "train", you must purchase a ticket at the Train Station, across from the Children's Play Area. Tickets are $3/person. The line to board the train is quite long when it first opens for rights (11AM weekdays, or 10AM weekends), so plan accordingly. We like to ride the train as our last activity at the mall, once the wait has lessened a bit. Also, the line for the train is in direct sun, so pack sunscreen for this outing. If you choose to go at a busy time and your children are older, they can play in the children's area, while you hold the place in line.

There are a few cars, each a different color. My children love to be the "caboose" - so do I, because it is fully open, and we can stretch out a bit more. Much more comfortable for my 6'4" husband! If your child has their heart set on a specific train car, keep in mind that you may have to miss a turn in order to get that specific car. Once you get seated in the car, the "conductor" will check on each door and make sure it is completely locked. Then, the ride begins. It goes through the entire first floor of the mall, and lasts about 10 minutes. My children were always enamored throughout the ride. They especially loved when the conductor used the whistle.

When you return you'll be right back at the station. This is very close to Frost: A Gelato Shoppe, so add to your outing by grabbing a yummy treat after your train ride!
