Smyrna Outdoor Adventure Center is the perfect spot for any season!
The Smyrna Outdoor Adventure Center is a great spot to spend a cold winter day or a hot summer one. While the name can be deceiving, it’s home to both an outdoor splash park and an indoor activity center.
SplashTown, the outdoor splash park, has a large pool with slides and a rock wall, a lazy river, and a smaller splash area for younger kids with water sprayers and smaller slides. There are lounge chairs set up and a few umbrellas set up around the pool area. This is a very popular spot during the summer months, especially once school is out. This water area is located behind the SOAC building and there is a parking lot next to this outdoor entrance. 2021 prices are $5 for adults over the age of 13 and $4 for kids ages 1-12. Their hours vary in the summer so be sure to check their website or call ahead before you go.
When SplashTown is closed, the indoor area of the SOAC is just as fun. The first area is home to rotating exhibits, which are typically very hands-on, and pre-school-aged friendly. We visited when it was Medieval-themed and the kids loved playing dress-up, cooking meals, putting on puppet shows, and using the building activities. The early 2022 exhibit will be dinosaur-themed. There is also a craft room, which rotates through activities. The most unique, and perhaps surprising area was the Adventure Zone. The adventure zone has two areas, a rock-climbing area for those over 50 pounds, and a soft play/climbing area for those who do not meet the rock-climbing requirements. My niece who was tall enough to climb, spent all her visit mastering the different walls, while we took the younger kids in the adjacent room and let them climb in another area, build towers, and roll around. The indoor area costs $5 for kids over two (including climbing) and $4-7 per adults depending on if you want to climb. We were the only visitors when we went on a Wednesday mornings, but the staff mentioned it can be busy on weekends. Lines can form for the rock wall.
