Tibet-Butler Preserve offers various trails, boardwalks, and views for a day of family-friendly hikes right near Walt Disney World!
If you're looking to get outdoors to see the real Florida, this preserve is very accessible, right outside Disney's gates! You'll enter various parking spots in a paved lot, which will lead you to the Vera Carter Environmental Center, where your hiking adventure begins! You'll find a natural garden outside the center that displays various plants and animals (like the gopher tortoise & box turtle) native to Central Florida. The center itself hosts programs and educational opportunities, including a homeschool program when available.
Just beyond the center is where you will start your hike, with clearly labeled trails, though skill level is not noted. Fallen Log and Osprey Overlook provide boardwalk passages that make the terrain easier if choosing to bring a stroller. Osprey will even take you out to an overlook to search for water animals! Pine Circle Trail and Tarflower Loop were also stroller-friendly and did not have any obstructions, but did not offer paved passageways. Screech Owl Trail did have soft ground at times, particularly if there had been a wet day, so hiker beware if using a stroller. Finally, Palmetto Passage is not recommended for children or may be impassable at times due to conditions. In total, you can accomplish about a 5K (or 3.1 miles) worth of hikes if you hit all trails!
On your return, the environmental center has outdoor theater seating and rocking chairs available to relax in, if you wanted to stop for a snack break or cool off after your hikes. Restroom facilities are also available on site before packing up to leave! So bring a snack and enjoy the beautiful covered outdoors here before heading on your way.
Need a bite to eat? Head up Winter Garden Vineland Road to Westside Shoppes for a variety of eateries! Try Keke's Breakfast for brunch, or Gator's Dockside for family-friendly pub fare for lunch or dinner. If you're looking for something to go, Tijuana Flats is a local favorite for Tex-Mex (and often offers meal specials for kids)!
