Twin Hickory Area Library is a paradise for book lovers of all ages!

Twin Hickory Area Library is absolutely gorgeous! We typically plan a visit to the library in conjunction with playing at the large Twin Hickory Park playground and/or splash pad. The library and park are within walking distance, but each has its own parking lot, so you could drive if you prefer.

There's a vending area to your right when you enter the library. The machines sell typical "snack foods" - chips, candy bars, and drinks. Eating and drinking are permitted in this room, and there are lots of tables, so you could work or read while enjoying snacks in this area. If you don't want to eat in this area, you can enjoy two outdoor areas: a covered area with tables to the right of the entrance or benches across the field.

The children's section is toward the left. I love how this section is a "true" children's section with its very own librarian and unique features, apart from the other library sections. I also love how easy they make it on families to visit this library. For example, there are two family restrooms in the children's section, one with a child-sized potty. I also love the kid-sized tables and desks. While there are no toys or crafts out now, you could certainly pack your own coloring pages to use at these tables.

Every thoughtful detail of this library is incredible: the children's books in Spanish, bird study with a bird feeder outside the window, several computer stations with kid-sized chairs, comfy seats, and the organization system by "theme" really simplifies the book selection process for young children. My son loved finding all the dinosaur books together and the transportation books. We love the kits that families can check out that include: a book, activities like a puzzle or game associated with the book, CD, and more.

To check out kits like these, or anything from the library, you must have a library card. Register for one online before visiting the library to expedite obtaining a library card. Twin Hickory Area Library hosts a variety of children's programs, including: "Puppets & PJs," "Preschool Craft," "Mathtastic Celebration." Check the library's event calendar to attend these free events. Many require advance registration. If your crew is hungry after your library visit, head to Mellow Mushroom about five minutes away. My children love the delicious kids' french-bread pizzas and magic mocktails!
