Learn at the Varina Library with programs, events, and a large children's section.

Varina Area Library, a branch of Henrico County Public Library, offers so much for families. We particularly love visiting this library for its massive children's section. I love how there is so much space in this area, and a librarian designated to helping the families who come to this section of the library. There are simple crafts at the entrance of the children's section, like coloring pages. The library has two floors, so plan accordingly if you are bringing a stroller. Parking is easy and convenient in the large lot in front of the building.

We love the *free* programs put on by the librarians! They do require registration in advance, so check the library calendar online to stay up to date. Many of the programs are ideal for preschoolers, like one my son (4) and I recently attended about animal tracks. The programs are casual, so it's not a big deal if your child needs a break. The librarians are incredible about incorporating movement within the program, so children can get their wiggles out! The large windows at the back of the library with tables in front, serve as a great spot to read and relax with your child. In addition to preschool age programs, there are also storytimes, and workshops for older children, too.

If you plan to check out books from the library, have your library card ready. If you live in a neighboring district to Henrico, you may complete the library card application in advance, and show your ID to obtain a library card and check out items from the library.

After spending time at the library, head over to Dorey Park, about five minutes away. Dorey Park has a large playground, paved trails ideal for biking or scooters and picnic pavilions.
