Virginia Musical Museum offers an engaging way to learn about music, instruments and history.

My 8 year old is a budding pianist, and has long wanted to visit the Virginia Musical Museum in Williamsburg. We recently visited and it was well worth our trip from Richmond. There is so much to learn and glean from this museum. I highly recommend a visit to anyone interested in music or history. When you arrive at the museum, park in the lot directly in front of the building. The museum is on the 2nd floor of the Parker Piano Outlet. We visited on a Saturday and were the only ones there, so you don't need to worry much about crowds.

Once you enter, you will purchase tickets, and begin your tour. The guides are incredibly knowledgeable, and do a great job of breaking down information for those unfamiliar with the instruments. I recommend saving this museum for older children, as there are a lot of fragile items and it is in a small space. For STEM enthusiasts, this is a great spot, because you will love learning about the technology that went into creating the instruments.

The Virginia Musician Hall of Fame features artists like Bruce Hornsby, Patsy Cline, Ella Fitzgerald and more. My daughter particularly enjoyed seeing the Piano Gallery and the musical instruments used at the circus and other festivals. Allot about 1 hour for your visit. Restrooms are on the first floor. I suggest visiting Kiwanis or Waller Mill Park, both less than 10 minutes from the museum after you leave.
