Wekiwa Springs is just north of Orlando and features camping, natural springs, canoeing, and hiking trails!
The place to spend a nice day out? Check out one of the springs in and around Orlando, with Wekiwa being the closest to metro Orlando! This park is the perfect spot for a summer day, as you will want a warm enough day to make the most of what it has to offer.
For starters, the biggest draw here is the springs - at a constant temperature of 72 degrees, it is the perfect place for a summer escape! The lagoon is a centerpiece of the park, so on arrival, follow signs to it and you'll be led to the main parking area to access. The rest of the park is devoted to camping spots if you have so reserved one.
Once at the springs, there is only one picnic table readily available in the main area, but others are welcome to make a spot along the hill for prime viewing of the springs! There is a quick hiking trail right off the back of the springs - the Wet-to-Dry Trail - which will lead you on a loop back to where you started. There are other trails, though more extensive and covering far more rugged terrain. So hike as you please but make sure to follow signs and stay on paths!
Back at the springs, you'll find a convenience store and quick service cafe to grab any snacks or lunch you didn't bring. The store also offers floats and other swimming items to purchase; or an opportunity to rent a kayak or canoe for a few hours! If choosing to do so, make sure you give yourself plenty of time as they do close at around 5 and need the boats back before closing (last rentals are at about 3;30). You can then find your rental past the springs where you will be equipped and sent on your way! This is the way to readily view the park and see its residents. If you have the time and stamina, take your canoe rental down to Wekiva Island (or if you prefer, start here to visit Wekiwa Springs)!
Need a bite to eat? The best way to enjoy this park for the day is with a picnic - you will pass a Publix Supermarket on the way to pack some essentials! Don't want to worry about the extra? There's an on-site convenience store and grill (only open until about 4) for you to grab some grub!
